It's only illegal in some (oppressive) places! And yes I know very well this myth. And since a large part of the dudes where I went to college and lived for a while (New Orleans) have dreads, I can't say I disagree lol. I'm now growing my own dreads, because I've wanted natural hair and locs for years. I do smoke, but I don't automatically associate dreads with smoking or Rasta... maybe a particualar style of dreads though. Most people I know with freeform dreads are Rastafari and do smoke. Anyway, I agree with this article. Since more and more people in America wear dreads for no other reason than it seems to be "in" or their favorite rapper has them, I don't think it's a valid association anymore. I plan to be a dread for the rest of my life so it'll be interesting to see where this goes. As it stands, no one would look at me and think I smoke :)
